On Tuesday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was photographed playing poker on his iPhone during a U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing regarding possible military action in Syria. To the naked eye, you can see that Sen. McCain is at a five-handed hold'em table. When you blow up the photo (taken by Washington Post photographer Melina Mara), you can see that Sen. McCain had just limped in from under the gun with queen-deuce off suit.

After the photo surfaced, Sen. McCain admitted to playing on his iPhone on Twitter:

John Mccain Senate Seat

McCain is a key figure and a one of the most well known senators and the message he is sending out, is one that is unsettling as Digg’s David Weiner rightly defined by writing

Haha, you’re right!. It’s absurd to expect someone who pushed us into two, now maybe three wars to give his full attention!

McCain’s stance on this issue is that he has already decided on the course of action for the strike and hence is happy with the way the White House is moving forward. Yet, his tweet and the attitude he has adopted after being photographed suggests not only a lack of seriousness but of arrogance as a strategic military decision that will most definitely result in loss of lives does deserve a more respected stance.

Yes, we shouldn’t expect our Senators to pay attention for 3 whole hours. It’s just bombing another country, after all!
